So...the new plan is to feed him 20 milliliters per hour fortified to 22 calories with the hopes that he will sufficiently gain 30 grams per day and grow adequately for his age. So far, so good, which leads to the next big news - William's feeding tube was moved up into his stomach from his intestine this morning. The last time his tube was up in his stomach he experienced horrible reflux and increased apnea and bradycardia spells. We are praying that this time his little body will be able to handle receiving food into the stomach. It is absolutely necessary for him to do this in order to start receiving feeds on a more normal feeding schedule so that he can make another step toward coming home.
In other good news, William's second eye exam went well. His eyes are in Zone III, stage 1, which means he is low risk for vision problems later on down the line.
In terms of weight, William is currently 5 pounds, 13 ounces. His weight gain hasn't been as stellar this week since he was both off feeds and on a lower amount of feeds for a few days. His current length is 17.6 inches so he is a ltitle small for his age.
Keep us in your prayers...We have been giving William pep talks saying that since he is almost a full term baby, he needs to start acting like a big boy. Maybe hanging a picture of his Mickey Mouse nursery on his crib will give him a goal to work towards....
